We are passionate about music business in education and have worked with several organisations to address issues of commercial exploitation and the ownership of intellectual property within further education institutions. This research has led to the development of a practical course/module in Monetising Music Online, designed to be taught in as an intensive one week programme or over a series of ten three hour lectures:

Monetising Music Online

The emusupro system enables individuals or groups of students to set up their own online record label as part of their course programme. The emusu label management team provide ongoing support for students and course leaders across all aspects of using the platform. This allows our 'pro' package to be used as a practical learning aid and focal point for creative output with a 'real world' commercial presence and value. Each instance of the platform can be used to deliver a multitude of learning outcomes across the critical aspects of digital music distribution and monetisation.

Course Aims:
  • To build a commercial framework for the ethical exploitation of creative output to the mutual benefit of educational institutions and their students and in doing so establish a channel for practical engagement with the wider commercial music industry.

  • To help increase an educational institutions ability to design and deliver popular music education with the knowledge and resource to extend its prospectus to encompass the music industries transition to the digital domain whist providing a mechanism for quantifiable student feedback.
Objectives:

These aims are addressed through four specific objectives - delivered in line with available human and financial resource and to fall in line with the academic year. Each objective is realised through the integration and development of the emusupro digital music distribution and retail management platform, its existing licenses, legal templates and commercial experience:
  1. Creation of institutions' flagship online record label & download store website.

  2. Creation of 'opt-in' Non-Exclusive License to Exploit Repertoire
