New Music : What should we R&D??

Wow, what to R&D!!! A few starting comments....

Having been to the NMC, I came away thinking that most of the problems they
were trying to solve had either being solved by us (emusu), or we’re in the process
of solving them.

emusu.com’s existing services plus all those in the pipeline (including
being a one stop shop etc) to come available should be the starting point
for the whole AIM funded R&D project.

We are it.

The small step for the AIM/NMC/funders
to realise as to where emusu.com is, will mean they can catch up to the emusu
wavelength, re-evaluate the situation (and the system) then look at the long
and exciting road ahead we’ve been facing since our realisation of emusu’s
dyanamics.

We can then broader this by researching and developing solutions to do with:

Demand and supply - new digital economics i.e unlimited supply - the long
tail. Whilst demand for digital content has increased, the supply just
became infinite, this difference of equilibrium needs to be calculated. we
can see it in the market before our very eyes - EMI have halved the value of
their catalogue, in the hope (or realisation?) that high volume demand will
increase overall profits because the cost per unit has gone down as a less
proportion than demand/purchases have risen.

Cost of entry into the industry and how to lower it?

The rise of the independent power by having the same means as larger
established music businesses, how do we educate them to use it properly?

Increasing efficiency and cost effectiveness of a music business?

The medium of digital - phones/laptops/TV’s?

Address issues of Piracy - even harmoniously decide whether it is an issue -
the artists benefit from higher gig sales etc/merchandise.

Where does an artist’s/label’s money really come from?

If you think of a label’s online presence/platform/structure as being in
place. This has laid the foundations of an entirely different spectrum/challenge -
inducing the demand/gaining the route to market and capitalising on the
existing demand. Should we be calculating the demand and, realising it is
finite (subject to pricing/ease of consumption etc) and trying to decrease
the amount of music businesses entering into the market??

Why does half the catalogue not sell? What will kick start the wave of
people associating retail platforms with the actual artist or label? Radio 1 have got into the habit of plugging myspace without even knowing it - they should do the music industry a favour and keep saying that track can be bought from theartist.com

Or if you decide not to take the platforms to the people, take the content to the
platforms and provide tick box system with unrivalled ease and benefits.

Where would you like your music to be sold today?
